I've been developing websites professionally since the mid-1990's and have been involved with social computing for about ten years before that.

With a background in programming, graphic design, Internet marketing and sociology, I think you'll find that I've got a pretty quirky perspective on things.

You can find out more about what I'm up to these days over at MarkBlair.org.

I think this is the first book I've seen fully devoted to website optimization. Should be a good read.

Too cool -- nice list of the top 10 U.S. athletes to keep an eye one -- with their website links. It is pretty interesting to browse through some of the athlete's websites.

Having no expectations is really the key to enjoying this type of travel. Go with an open mind and an empty journal. This is the kind of thing I'd have done in a heartbeat before but gets trickier with family as my wife and son aren't into sacking out in train stations and such ;-)

Maybe a mini-retirement at the Starbucks?
